Best Practices Manual
Installation of Geosynthetics for MSW Applications
This best practice manual focuses on the many aspects of how geosynthetic installers interact with the municipal solid waste (MSW) industry to improve landfill construction around the world. This contribution to the betterment of waste management is not simply through better construction practices; it is also by way of communication with design engineers and other partners in the field whose decisions impact the constructability of infrastructure with geosynthetics. By learning about the nuances of the installation side, everyone from the design engineer to specifier to earthworks contractor can enhance their expertise.
IAGI has chosen the waste management sector for its first best practices manual due to the beneficial impact landfill construction has had on the world. Beginning in the 1980s, MSW disposal cells were the first major piece of infrastructure to require the use of geosynthetic lining systems. The attention this change brought to geosynthetics helped establish better approaches to these sites, improved environmental performance in waste management, and contributed to improvements in work with geosynthetics mining, environmental protection, industrial processing, water resource management, and other critical containment sectors.
This manual expands upon the insights found in IAGI’s other industry resources, such as welding guidelines used for the Certified Welding Technician (CWT) program and the professionalism, ethics, and business practices promoted by the Approved Installation Contractors (AIC) program. The information contained herein has been developed in consultation with IAGI’s members, its Board of Directors, and additional experts as recommended by IAGI’s leadership.
Finally, the need for a best practices manual is sustained by industry awareness of a singular truth: no design, however well-conceived, succeeds without high quality geosynthetic installation that enables a project to go into service in as ideal a condition as possible.
The Manual is available for $80.00 USD. Click on the link. You will be taken to the IAGI store. The BPM is located at the bottom of the page.
